It’s July in central Pennsylvania and that means it’s time for the wheat harvest. The hot summer sun can easily change the moisture level in the wheat by several points in just a few hours. We were very lucky with the weather this year and narrowly avoided winds strong enough to flatten our ripe crop. Our wheat harvest went off without a hitch.
Unfortunately, we do have a causality to report. The F-350 had to be towed into the dealership. I don’t think it’s going to make it back to the farm this time.
This year, the local AGCO dealer delivered a brand new Gleaner S88 to the area and simply told farmers to give it a try. Several farms got on the waiting list and our neighbors were one of them. They had asked if we could run our grain cart for them so they could keep moving with the combine.
Our local New Holland dealer is desperately trying to get us to trade in our 8310R Deere for a T8.330. They dropped it off so we could use it on the cart for a while.
The trusty 10 wheeled KW was used as this wheat will be delivered right to the mill.
After finishing with the neighbors wheat, we planted some short season beans for them so they didn’t have to waste time and moisture by working the ground first. We couldn’t resist a picture of the two T8’s side by side.
As it turns out, the dealer had a very low mileage F-350 on the lot, so instead of paying for major engine work on ours, we just traded it in. It was time for a new color anyhow. That red one was just never quite right.
We finally decided to sell the old 7800. We just don’t use it much anymore and if we end up purchasing a new tractor, this would help pay for it.
Questions and comments welcome.
