Like I mentioned a few days ago, soybean harvest took place during the same time as corn silage chopping. After we had started chopping, we checked the beans and saw that they were ready to harvest. We called Phil, hoping he could come as soon as silage was done, but as it goes he was already booked up for days after we would be done. He reassured us if we put our two wagons out by one of the fields, he would have the equipment to cover the other two for us. We agreed, mostly because all our available help was spoken for chopping already.
Phil showed up the next day and he was right, he had the equipment to help us out. His wife drove him back and forth from his place to ours to bring the equipment. We expected his combine and his grain truck but what he showed up with next really told us he meant business. He really meant it when he said he was booked up and had to move as fast as he could. We knew he had it, but we didn’t expect him to show up with his T9.615 and Killbros 1111 grain cart. He does do enough custom harvesting and his own acreage to justify it though.
On his way out to the fields, he said “Just leave it to me and try to empty everything as soon as you can.” With that being said, he was on his way. He did have a little time between dumping hopper loads to get a few pictures for us. Later in the day, we got a few of the loads set up by the auger for my wife to watch over as they were unloaded and we continued to chopped. Phil did stop long enough at the end of the day to get a group shot of his equipment. He had been trying to get one for a while for a little advertising for his custom harvesting.
So, all in all, the beginning of fall harvest went well. The silage and beans averaged pretty good considering the screwy weather we had this past year. We already have Phil booked to come back to do combine the rest of the corn for high moisture and dry corn. Depending on the weather and his schedule, he already offered to bring back the T9.615 and cart if needed for the dry corn. He was joking around with us again about all the combining he does for us and when we might get our own combine. All we could say is, “Only time will tell and only if God allows”.
Phil showing up for the day
Headed out to the fields
Header on and ready to go
Getting our wagons out for Phil to use
First hopper going into the cart
Filling Phil's Wilson trailer
Our wagons getting filled
Starting to unload at the end of the day
Something new to us. Set up one of our wagons to unload Phil's cart
Phil headed to the next farm, where they had their own truck, so he left his sit till tomorrow. We also made room in the shed to put his T9.615 and cart in for the night. Tight squeeze
Phil's harvest crew all together
Thanks for reading.
Questions and comments welcome.
