Finally had a little down time. It has been pretty busy on the farm since the beginning of May. The corn got in the ground in a timely matter and sprayed with Roundup later on. The yard got cluttered at times with equipment setting out. Eventually it was cleaned and stored away till next time. First crop hay went pretty well, considering the amount of rain we received. It was welcomed rain but it meant more of the hay was chopped or wrapped up this year. Second crop went a lot better, with more of it being baled dried and stored away under a roof.
So far the corn and oats look really great. The extra moisture and heat have really made the corn really stretch out. With the early cooler spring weather and rain, most of the oats is near waist high and standing really good. Looks like the bushels will really add up this year.
The neighbor who has a custom manure handling stopped by this spring. He was checking to see if we would be interested in buying some chicken manure this fall. We have about a half dozen boiler barns in our area and they hire him to haul. We told him we would see after silage is done. We did have him stop by on his way through and pump out our septic for us. Worked out pretty good this time. All in all, things have been going pretty smoothly.
Filling the sprayer
Few pieces to store away yet.
Haylage and wrapping bales.
Switched the grain box to the new flatbed for a couple months.
Decided to start using the old feed truck to haul our own bulk feed ingredients.
Sent a load of hay down to the “Red Dirt State” (Chris knows the one) for my sister-in-laws horses.
Phil was on his way home from doing some custom hay cutting. Stopped in due a unexpected down pour. Had a hard time seeing the road. He has been trying to talk us into buying his windrower when he gets a new one.
Thanks for looking. Questions and comments are welcome.
