Winters in Minnesota – never two the same. This year is no different. We have had a few cold stretches and measureable amounts of snow, but nothing like a normal winter. If there is such a thing in Minnesota. Any of the snow fall we received so far has melted away due to a few warm streaks. But, as any true Minnesotan knows, March and April can make you wish it was July.
We have been pretty busy with things on and off the farm. A few days of ice fishing were able to take place this year. We even got my sister in law and her boyfriend, both living in Oklahoma, out on the ice. Speaking of the Oklahoman’s, we are in the works of making a deal selling hay to them each year. My sister in law has rodeo horses and her boyfriend works on a 1,000 head cow, calf, bull ranch. We won’t be able to provide them with all they need, but it will help. Even with travelling the extra distance with their own truck, they still come out ahead when hay gets tight down south.
A “newer” 7110 was found with less hours then our present one and a deal was made for a trade. We could of went newer, but it didn’t pencil out right now. Besides, we have a few other deals in the works for the farm right now. One of those involves Phil and his new business ventures but on that another time. Another neighbor, down the road, asked if we grind feed for him from know on. (Something to do with not liking the new owners of the local mill.) At least it is just one neighbor for now, till the word spreads. Oh well.
Otherwise just the same old routine. Wake up, milk, feed the cattle, odd stuff, feed the cattle, milk and sleep. Frank and Will have started to bring equipment into the shop to get it ready for the year. It is always good to get it ready ahead of time, nothing like finding out a repair is needed the same day the equipment is needed. Seems like the days fly by quicker towards spring when the equipment starts to get ready for spring. Like everyone else, next month will be more on getting ready for spring and what Phil is up to with his business.
Getting the fish house stored away till next winter.
Getting the grain truck set up to haul seed and fertilizer.
Going over the new to us 7110.
First job for it.
Squeezing by past Phils. Either he hired someone else to help him or he bought a new truck.
Talking some business plans and deals with Phil.
Grinding some corn for a neighbor.
Moving some sawdust to the beef steer barn.
Sister in law and her boyfriend showing up for some hay.
Safer than a ladder.
Chatting with the milk hauler, Fred Gulf. He is planning on getting a newer truck in the next few months.
Questions and comments are welcome.
