Well dad jumped the gun by a couple days when he sent me out to disk a few rough spots. One was a terrace channel that had some pretty deep ruts in it from this springs wheat harvest, the others were a "ditch" that was part of a field that drained into a decent sized lagoon which also needed disked.
Pictures:
disk folded up and ready to leave the yard, we were a little worried about making it up the road because when we raised the disk up, the cylinder started leaking but it wasnt to bad so we went ahead.
turned off the dirt road and headed through our draw, the only other way to access this field is from the highway and with a leaky cylinder we didnt want to risk it
some milo alongside the summerfallow i had to drive through to get to the wheat stubble
for those of you who always seem to wonder what a terrace is, image a topographical map where each of the lines is equal to a pile of dirt on a hillside, and thats the idea...
The peak of the terrace is where the wheat and summerfallow meet.
onto farming....
The ruts I am working out of the terrace
first pass
Grrr old disks that no one takes the time to adjust.... yes it was muddy but i dont suppose scrapers that are a good 2 inches from the disk help much.... how about the ones that are so close the disk made a notch in them?
I would guesstime I plugged up at least 6 times in the terrace chanel, probably closer to 10 but I lost count. Soon found out all you have to do is throw the tractor in reverse and backup... if your lucky.
Onto the ditch and the lagoon
The weeds that were growing in the lagoon, I am surprised how well they were killed by the roundup we sprayed on them about 2 weeks ago.
Managed to plug the disk up so bad that backing up could no longer unplug it so I had to wait for someone to bring me a home made scraper to clean them.

Finally just had to quit for the day and come back the next afternoon after finding 2 sprayer ruts that must have been holding water right under the surface
