Last weekend we baled our straw. We ended up baling most of them small squares as we couldn't get anyone to round bale or big square bale it. The baler is a 269 New Holland being operated by the TW-10. The wagon we use is a Bale Basket (yes, that is the name of it). It is a pretty simple system. The baler pushes the bales up the chute and they fall in the wagon. Once full, we pull up to were we are stacking and open the rear gate. Shut the gate and your on your way again. You do have to stack them by hand though. Had to do some raking to dry out the straw a bit. Finished stack. It has about 550 bales. I ended up stacking about the last 450 by myself . To cover it we roll out some black plastic and then cover it with another row of straw. We do sacrifice about 60 bales, but it has been an effective way for covering it. Enjoy the pictures.

Nice Job and Thanks for the Pictures. How many bales does your Bale Basket hold? And do they come in bigger or smaller sizes? And why not put the straw in a barn or stack on pallets?

What do you use it for? Do you sell it or use it for bedding on your farm? Around here some people feed it as a filler and use it for bedding.

We don't have a counter on the baler, but we estimate we can get between 50-60 bales in it; if you get out and throw some bales towards the back you can push it around 80 bales. That is the only size that I know of. We don't have a barn to put it in, it keeps pretty well like that. The edges sometime catch a little bit.

We use to feed a lot of straw when we had the cows. My dad is thinking of putting in about 20-30 head of 400-500 lbs calves to grow them to about 800-900 lbs this winter. If we don't do that we probably would sell some of it.
