My wife got some pictures of Dad and I hauling some stacks home last night. The field was pretty muddy. If it was much wetter I don't think I could have got the stacks loaded. I got 3 moved home last night. I was all geared up to move hay this afternoon when I get off work. It doesn't look like that is going to happen now. We woke up to a nice coating of ice on everything and it is drizzling. So much for getting anything done this weekend. I will start off with a couple of videos. This one is loading a stack. You can see me moving the front wheels back and forth on my pickup becuase it kept trying to slide down the hill. This one is unloading a stack. She started the video a little late. Now for some pics. The cane was a little short this year and the stacks are not transporting the best. So we are having to rope them down which is a pain and takes more time. Heading out. Back for another one. Questions and comments welcome.

Interesting operation. Why stacks instead of baling? How do you feed it? How do you get your wife to take pictures and video?

We stack because up until this fall we didn't have a baler. Dad bought a 510 John Deere, but it needs a lot of work. It is going to be a winter project. One of the main reasons we stack is we have the equipment to do it that way and we only do about 25 acres so the fact that it takes longer isn't as much of an issue. A lot of the old timers say that stacking is still the best way to put up cane. It is just too time consuming for the big farmers. It also stores really well. We have some stack that are 2 years old that still look new on the inside. They will be used first this winter. We just feed it in feed racks with the tractor. Here is a pic of Dad feeding. Here I am carrying some out to the feedrack. I just asked my wife if she would take some pictures and she said yes. She is pretty tolerant of my hobbies. I am lucky that way. I helped her build her scrapbook area that is at the end of my toy room so she helps me. ;D
