Well we finally got started combining this past week!! Us and a couple people are the only ones doing corn yet, everyone else is still doing beets and finishing beans, or their corn is too wet still. We are almost done with our 100 acres but might pick up some custom work. Had to stop combining yesterday because we got into 20% moisture otherwise we would be done by now. I dont think it will dry down for awhile either because at the moment there is an inch of snow on the ground with more on the way and a high of low 40's for the next week... Our yields have been very disappointing due to hail, two varieties of the pivot only were making about 90 due to dropping ears, and falling corn stalks, and what ears there were to combine were very small from the hail stress. The other half of the pivot is planted to a variety that was fairly prone to the hail and is making 130-140 but it is the corn that is 20%. Still a huge setback compared to having that field average 215 like it did the past two years. Well anyways here are some pictures.
Im very pleased with the capacity of the R62 which is no surprise as well as it did in wheat. The old N series head we are running on it cant keep up with the combine to hardly keep it full so im only doing 4 mph, i think if i had a better head i could do 5 mph easily.
We were just starting so there wasn't a truck loaded and dad was at the field so i made him run the combine for a round so i could get some pictures of it.
We didn't bother bringing the grain cart because the 4850 is busy getting used by the hired hand hauling hay stacks into the yard and the corn isn't that good anyways but on the good variety we cant quite make a round, it takes a little time but dad cant keep up with me trucking either so its not too bad of a problem.
These are my favorite pictures.
Hope you enjoyed them, there may be more.
