We have been managing to stay busy around the farm , trucking, and ag companies this month. Calving is pretty much in full swing on the farm. The weather has proved to make that a little more difficult this year. Between the cold early and the mud. It seems we have seen a rise in calves that came back words this year. Slipping on ice and mud is said to cause that sometimes. Here is one of the tractors and feed wagons in fueling up.
We sold one of the farm's older trucks and hoppers this month. We sold the old 377 Pete. The guy who drives it for us actually bought it. He wanted to get back to being able to help his Dad and Grandpa (J&R Farms) more. They were always a little short on trucks at harvest time and they had been wanting to get a semi but couldn't justify having one parked for most of the year. So when David heard that one was going to be leaving he asked if he could buy it and lease onto Minkler Trucking. So we worked out a deal and he is still basically doing the same thing except working for himself.
The truck that replaced it is an 07 pre emission Peterbilt 379 with a C-15 Cat. It has 150,000 miles on it. It is hooked to a new Wilson hopper. It is pulling it's first load out of our storage and going to the ethanol plant.
As it leaves the yard you can see 2 of the cattle pots fueling up. One of them is the other new addition to the fleet. It is also a 07 pre emission Peterbilt 389. It also has the Cat engine. It has 200,000 on it. It is pulling a new Wilson spread axle pot.(blue and black one.)
We had to do some rearranging on the yard because of all of the trucks. ;D The over the road fleet moved to a different yard.(my whole display table was getting covered in trucks) LOL
The farm's fleet stayed on the yard. Hopefully they all can back so they can get them parked straight.
The agronomy department has had a few days that they were able to put on some dry fertilizer for some customers. We have a lot of acres on the books so hopefully the weather will start cooperating.
The wheat is starting to green up a little with this warmer weather.
There has also been plenty of shop work going on. The 4960 is getting up around 6500 hours on it. They ran a compression test on it and it is still good. So they decided to do the bottom end in the engine as preventative maintenance.(replace the rod and main bearings)
The harvest crew has been working on getting trucks and combines checked over and ready for the wheat harvest run.
James has also been busy running the hay grinder for our cattle and customers. Here he is fueling up and getting ready to go grind.
That is all for now. Questions and comments welcome.
