We have been staying busy around the farm this month. Early in the month we were fighting mud and struggling to do the normal march projects. Calving is about 75% done. We were getting short on hay but the fields dried up enough that we were able to get some hauled home. We have also been doing the usual grain hauling to the ethanol plant. Feeding has been challenging as well. We finally gave up on the 2wd tractors on the chuck wagons and have been using the 7810s and the 4455.
We were finally able to get into the fields this week and do some fertilizing and spraying. We were also finally able to drill our forage oats. We put in 100 acres this year.
Filling the drill.
Drilling.
We also drilled 80 acres of oats for a neighbor before we cleaned out the drill to put it away. The 4920 was also in the shop. It was having some problems with the hydro. It may be on the slate to be traded off in the next couple years.
Minkler Ag was able to cover a lot of acres since we had a fairly nice week. There was one set back when the Flx found a soft spot.
The fields are drying up quite a bit but you still have to watch for soft spots. Luckily he was only about 5 miles from the farm so it didn't take too long to get the 535 to the field and pull it out. His front wheels were on dry ground but the back ones sank in the draw.
Got it out.
Back to spreading.
Filling the rig back up.
Both of the dry rigs have been running hard. Here is the Ag Chem filling up in the yard to get rolling. We haul our fertilizer down from Johnson Ag's blend plant. We partner with them in our agronomy business.
We have also been putting on liquid fertilizer on wheat ground and spraying wheat. We have been running all 3 rigs. Here is the floater spraying.
Heading out to the field.
Spraying.
Loading the sprayer.
Our seed dealership has also been delivering some seed to customers. We got a van trailer to use this year in stead of the flatbed. That way the we didn't have to worry if it was going to rain.
Now it is raining so we will be shut down for a couple of days. It is supposed to be sunny next week so we will be going again pretty quick. That is all for now. Questions and comments welcome.
