They told me that the message board is still free like years ago. i doubt that. But you never know if its true or not. i don't even know if its true.
Your right andy about it being to competitive. i liked it 6-8 years ago where everybody was handing out info that helped you start your farm display or gave you that last piece of info. to make your farm a top farm in the journal world.
i learned a lot off the real toy talk and the customs and displays. The information i got was really helpful.
But today everybody wants the information that we took the time to look up and research all those years ago. Well the posts are still there and they should look at them themselves if you understand where i'm coming from.

Well this might be a little controversial of a subject but I guess I'll state my opinion, take it with a grain of salt. I'm not really comparing both sites but talking more so about the general farm toy hobby all together. It changed so much over the years especially the last 10. I remember being little in the 80's being able to walk into a machinery dealership and picking up 3 packages of toys for $10.00 or $2.00 - $3.00 dollar each, now you're lucky if you get a toy for $10.00. Also everything comes in pack you have to spend $20.00 and get 2 extra items you more than likely have just to get the one tractor you want. Or there's 3 of the same tractor castings with just different decals, tire combo, or paint. I never thought that a combine or chopper could cost $300.00 custom made, but that's the quality and detail you pay for which is understanding.
For displays I remember when I 1st discovered TTS and spent alot of time on there reading display journals, and looking at pictures. I noticed too if you post anything on the Internet someone is bond to copy it. I had a 7720 combine with duals and one day I had 10 Pm's asking what I used for duals. Also I had a display in the Toy Farmer magazine, and a couple months later I saw a new display builder copied it almost exactly except with just Ertl buildings instead of custom built ones that made. I guess that's risk of posting anything though right? I grew up idolizing John Schomburge, and Adam Sunkten and their displays. Those guys gave me alot of pointers and help. Now Like alot of the older top display builders their displays have been taken down, or they are busy with their family or other responsibilities, and no one has ever heard of them or seen their top work. I remember at shows doesn't matter small local shows or large onces like Nationals. What got you an award was a basic layout that seems set up real, lots of eye catching detail and something different. Now it just seems like it's all about size and customs. A person could have an 8ft x8ft field of dirt with 20 customs on it and customs and win. Also it seems like alot of displays are dairy layouts with a free stall barn with a working lagoon and all brand new equipment. For judging it seems too it's not what you know but who you know. I noticed too that it seems like SOME of the so called "new generation" displays are looking for all the answers we had to figure out with trial and error, they don't even search it just put p a post and ask "oh how do I make my powder grass stick?" Or SOME new members find some one to leach onto and have them help with a display.
It seems like this whole hobby is one big competition and can really push someone away. I know I don't post too much or go to as many shows as I use to, some of it does deal with with I'm talking about on it, but most of it is dealing with my new life style with buying a house, having a fiance, new truck, tractor restoration project, and always working. I guess this is just how things change. That's just my two cents of what I think.

Well said Anthony. I always enjoys your displays. I liked that one you used to have with the run down equipment and farmyard. It honestly looked like a lot of farms around here. I can't remember the name of it but I really enjoyed it. I hope I wasn't the copier. Your displays were the inspiration for my little display. I know mine is no where near the caliber of yours. What kind of tractor are you restoring. I play with old Deeres.

Thanks Clayton I beleive that 1st verson of Springbrook farm........everyone farm I used that name but that was the first display I built. I really liked it too because alot of farms are like that too by me and I thought it would be cool to have something different with out any shinny or new equipment, but it wasn't a hit at all on the toy forums at all so I took it down. By no means was I talking to you at all. Sorry if it seemed that way. This person is a younger kid who goes to the same local shows as me and copied my layout just not my theme but I mean the set up of the buildings and everything. Sorry if you got the jive I was venting about my work, I was just talking about my thoughts of the whole hobby how it kind of seems to be going down. I'm looking at a John Deere either a B, 730, 3020, or 4020. What got you an award was a basic layout that seems set up real, lots of eye catching detail and something different. Anthony You'll have to keep up updated when you do your tractor project. We have one of each of those series except the 3020. The B would be simple, the the 730s are a little more complex, especially a diesel. A new generation would be even more complex yet but they are the most usable and operator friendly. We have really enjoyed the 4020 that my brother bought. It has been really handy.

Well, if the hobby has gone down, it can start going back up right here and now if we so choose. I'm new to this hobby. I've played with farm toys all my life, but I've really gotten into it in the past few months. I hope I get a chance to know farm toy collecting like you did.

I like TTT for the Real Forum the most. IF it were just for toys, I would just post on here alot more. But the guys on Real always seem to get along, Ya we have arguments, but they are always interesting. Customs and Display Journals ain't bad either. It's great always seeing Sprucewood and Some Schomburg, and maybe even some Suntken. I've had great luck posting on there. ~TREY~
