They have been keeping busy around the farm. Calving season is getting wound down now. They have been fixing fence when it is too muddy to work in the field. They have been working calves and taking cattle to grass. Don managed to get all of the wheat top dressed before the last round of rain came. Here he is loading the spreader.
Here he is spreading.
You still have to be careful where you drive in the fields. There are still some soft spots and he found one. The spreader sank in the mud and there he sat.
He called Mike and he brought the 7520 out and pulled him out.
Here he is back in the yard fueling up to roll again.
They also put in about 90 acres of forage oats in early March. They went in with Minkler Farms and bought bulk seed. They went to Belleville and bought it from Polansky Seed Company. Here they are loading up the seeder.
Here Mike is drilling oats.
When the oats were in Mike hooked the disk on the 7520. He went and worked the field that they wintered and fed cattle on. It was really rutted and tracked up. He is trying to get it in shape to drill cane in another month or so.
David has been staying busy in his trucking venture. Here he is pulling a load at Minkler Farms to go to the ethanol plant.
Last week it rained so field work came to a stop. They decided to work some calves and haul cows out. Here is Mike leaving with a load of cows.
Don is following with a load of calves.
They still have 11 head of cows that haven't calved. They are still home so they are feeding them. They are hoping that they all get done by May 1st. Here is Mike feeding.
They also got the planter hooked onto the 4440 and pulled in the shop to get ready to plant corn. They are hoping to get started in the next couple of weeks if it drys out.
They have also been spraying some wheat as well. Some that had weed pressure in it had liquid fertilizer and chemical put on it with the floater instead of dry fertilizer. Will get some pictures of that the next time around.
That is all for now. Questions and comments welcome.
