Good morning everyone,
in a previous post some of you were asking to see pictures of a certain display I built years back. Unfortunately I don't have too many pictures of that layout. While searching for the pictures I found a lot of displays I built since I got into this hobby so I decided to post those. Most of these pictures are from Farmphoto.com I use to post alot of there but it started to get real bad with color wars and bashing, also it kind of turned into a eurpion site with the tractors and toys. Below are my old layouts that have built and taken down. It's interesting to look back and see the progress you made over the years with the help of toy forums and hobby friends made along the way. Enjoy!
This was my 1st display built at age 13. I first discovered toy forum boards and all I saw was huge dairy layouts with brand new equipment, and free stall barns and thought thats what I had to build. I never really liked this one.
In the background was a couple other displays I was working on. I had 3 displays being built at once. I realized I missed alot of detail and spent too much money on all 3 instead of just one nice one.
At 15 I took down the dairy display and built a smaller more family farm like display with older equipment. I liked this display a little bite more.
At age 16 I built this display. This display is the one I have the most memories of either building or doing journals on. I had my licenses and a job so I was able to save money and drive to a dealership or toy store for items. I remember once a week I'd do a journal on TTS.
This has to be my all time favorite picture from this display.
At 17 I built a display called Springbrook Farms. It was a replica of neighbors farm. They had all run down buildings, and equipment. I thought it'd be something different to model. Not too many people understood having faded muddy equipment(even though thats when the muddy craze was going on) and had alot of negative comments towards the display, everyone was use to seeing a huge dairy farm with brand new shinny tractors.
I built this display at age 18 for my FFA fair project my last year of school. I spent a good year working on this layout trying to make it top notch and stand out from the other ones that'd be at the fair. I had bushes, trees, customs, custom painted buildings, landscaping around the house. I received 1st place in my division and top honors out of the 30 displays there.
After high school I stopped building for bit and got back into at 21. I built this layout to take to local shows. I wanted something different and a challenge to build. I saw everyone was building 4x8's or 8x8's with little or no detail. I figured I could get the point across with a small layout and have just as much action with all detail I had cats and dogs outside, landscaping, junk pile, faded buildings, and equipment. I received an award each show I went to, every person at the show stopped and was amazed how such a little display could have so much detail. It was featured in the Toy Farmer, was interviewed at a show by a tv news crew and the next year at a local toy show I saw a younger kid completely copied it but with all Ertl buildings, and he received a 1st place, in the jr division.
I built this layout at age 22 and changed it around a bit for shows. At 1st it was just a small rented farm with a bunch of agrikings parked on it and a harvest scene going on and then later I added the lean to pond and cattle. I had even more detail on this 4x2 display than I did the last with a tractor for sale, and lady burning leaves, deer running through the harvesting corn.
..........it was a voting year if you couldn't tell. I changed the signs around each show just to see which sign got the most negative comments.
Last but not least. My current display at age 23. I really like this display and think it's my best work. I have great memories buildings, and had a hand with it from my fiance. This display took the longest display and has the most action. I was kind of disappointed that it didn't do too well at shows this year. Kind of seemed like certain judges just didn't really get down and look at, or were playing favorites, alot of people at the shows just walked right past or made comments about how small it was that it much not have been too hard to build. Seems like once again everyone is looking for size and a dairy display, but I'm going to keep doing what I'm doing. Currently Kassie and I are working on a replica of my grandpa and grandmas old farm and hope with in 2011 or 2012 it'd be completed for Nationals.
That's all the pictures I have I hope you enjoyed and thanks for viewing.
