Well its been pretty busy around here lately. Dad has been busy delivering corn all the time, i have been doing alot of fieldwork, and we finally started planting two days ago. We were a little late getting started because we made a bit of a switch on planter tractors this year. We decided to convert the new 4955 over to the planting/drilling tractor since we just got a new sunflower drill and thought it might be a little much for the 4440 to pull. We had a set of saddle tanks that weren't getting used but they only were made to fit on a 2wd tractor. We drove the 4955 into town and a local welding shop fabricated some new brackets for the tractor to put the tanks on and that took a little longer then we wanted it to. Anyways it looks good with the tanks on it i think, and we finally got it hooked up and the planter ready to go.
Here is a picture of the 4955 infront of the shop getting it ready to put on the planter, along with the 4850 hooked onto the field cultivator which needed a hydraulic hose replaced.
The planter and field cultivator ready to go. Your probably thinking that tractor is overkill on our little 7300 which i agree lol, but the only reason it is on that is because in the fall it also has to be on a Sunflower 9421 no-till drill which is 25 foot but it is no light pulling piece of equipment in no-till ground. I kind of wished they would have been parked next to each other for a better picture but oh well, i will get one of them together sometime.
I was running the field cultivator today and i thought this looked like kind of a cool picture, i was working on this field which is a pivot and it kind of overlooks over our meadow which you can see here.
For some of the people that have heard of the Sandhills of Nebraska, in the background is basically the start of them.
I am just about done working all of the corn ground infront of the planter, soon i will start discing and field cultivating a couple little summerfallow fields that dad didn't want to no-till because 2 of them are really small and one is some old CRP we tore up.
We should be done planting sometime next week since we dont have many corn acres. I was talking to the guy who runs the planter and he says that it is definitely nicer to have the 4955 compared to the 4440 because the FWA really helps out in going straight, plus its just a nicer tractor all around lol. Hopefully it will be off the planter soon so i can start using it. ;D
