Howdy, Well we finally got to cutting our first cut, looks like it'll be a decent crop compared to last year and the drought we went through. The day starts off like any other hot summer morning, clear skys... dry ground, perfect for cutting, so we pull the unit out of the shed, check it all out.... and then we're off In a field of mostly brome with some alfalfa After that 60ac is done, we move to another 80ac field, consisting of 80% alfalfa, 20% brome. The backround sky getting darker every minute... It was so tall and heavy in places you could just feel and picture the crimper opening up to it's max and still being backlogged trying to get all the material through, in those instances we gotta slow down to about 2mph so as to not have a complete plug that's a PITA to try and unplug So I take off a for a while, come back later and the picture is rather different: It's a little darker... and erie looking: Hard to tell through the picture, but there was a greenish glow up in those clouds... the ones that mean touble.... Still going as long as we can... Here's the 60ac field cut down earlier in the day: That 3rd last picture was the last one I took, a matter of seconds later and the rain drops start pelting. Luckily by then- the swather was half way home already, by the time i got back to the yard, I was drenched. Ended up getting an inch out of that and a few pea size ice pellets. So there, that was the first and last day of cutting hay so far. We have about another 150ac to cut still, Not untill we get a dry stretch, in the mean time we can focus on raking and baling what's cut so far. Thanks for looking

as long as the hay is still green a shower wont hurt the hay but if it sits and gets rained on it will bleach the color out of it

Nice pics. That brome hay looks really nice. I would like to have a 100 or so square bales of that hay to put in the barn. That is a wicked looking cloud. It looks like it could have popped out a tornado at about any time.
