Since we got close to 1/2 an inch yesterday, we're going full-blown on planting and drilling beans. The two 12 rows are running on a bunch of our better ground while I'm drilling a bunch of crap ground (Which is most of our ground. LOL). I've got the 8650 with the 40ft Great Plains. Very fun rig to run. I've always enjoyed drilling over planting. Most of this ground would've been fallowed out if we wouldn't of gotten the precipitation. Dang Sandhill.... We have alot of ground that is like this. The "Stafford County Sahara". It looked alot worse before we got moisture. Nice tree row. We run alot of cattle through here in the winter. My "autosteer" for the day. Thank god I have rows to follow... Lots of treerows and shelterbelts in this part of the county. There wasn't hardly any trees here before and during the dirty 30's. In the depression, the government created jobs by making crews to plant trees on the plains. They are a blessing as they help control wind erosion. Roading er' home. I've got a couple more quarters to do but I have to wait on the sprayer to get out of the shop before I drill those.

Some been soy drilling down here too. After they mowed down the rye for straw. The rest will be after combining grain.
Nice big drill there. Biggest I saw in the area is around 30ft. There is a Great Plains drill kinda like that near my house. But it's a double set up. Pulled by a John Deere 4955.

Kinda weird how it's one of the oldest tractors on the farm but it still has the best radio. Gotta love the old power. Trey

Great pics! I've never been up close to a Great Plains drill before so really interesting to see one. Looks like a real good outfit with that 8650 out front.

The Great Plains drill is very popular around our area. We have had 8 of them throught the years. We also have a 42.5ft 1890 CCS but don't have anything to pull it right now. The 8410 usually drags it around but she's on planting duty right now. The 8650 and this drill was kind of a split second decision. We hardly ever use this tractor for anything other then grain cart and dirt work but dad was in a crunch and we needed to get the beans in. It's a very nice rig. Plenty of power. Trey

The trick is gonna be getting it to germinate quick enough so we have a good cover over the ground before we get any major wind. It's really clean out there and kinda scared to think what a little wind would do to it. Trey

We tried to drill beans today but couldn't get our new monitor to work. I guess it's time for a dealer call lol We used to have a Great Plains way back when, but we switched and stayed with Deere. Dad said he cussed our GP drill everytime he used it.

A couple of our pivots are down in the Sandhills and we can't ever work them and risk losing our cover or they will blow so bad it would be hard to get another crop up without keeping the pivots on.

We were running 3 rigs today. I was drilling corners while the 1trper was planting corners in a different county and the 8410 and the front-fold were working on some custom dryland acres we had lined up. I ran out of corners to do since the coop is spreading lime ahead of me. They always quit at 5. No-till planter with Dawn Openers My rig Biggest pain on corners is there is lots of folding and unfolding Rounding off the circle. Corn on the irrigated, beans on the corners Trey

Are any beans starting to germinate yet? We drilled yesterday. We're drilling with my cousin to get all of our crops done faster.
