Harvest 2011 has come to a close at last. The fiinal acres of flax were cleaned off last Saturday and all the little dabs of stuff we cut around earlier have been taken off now as well. It's a good feeling. As a whole the yields were average to slightly below average but that's bound to be the case once in a while.
Been a busy last few weeks. As soon as the durum was off, I headed 30 miles south and spent some time custom swathing spring wheat and durum. In that district there was still a lot of standing crop To green to straight cut and frost in the forecast. Wish I had taken my camera because it's a completely different landscape to what I farm. It was right on the edge of what's considered "cattle country" (Hilly rough pasture land).

Looking back at the SW corner of the farm, and the primary bin yard.
Father-in-law showed up with the flax buncher shortly after we got going.
Once I was finished combining I jumped on the John Deere to finish up raking up flax straw while the father-in-lawn headed out too do some fall burn off (spraying). For anyone not familair with flax, the straw doesn't really break down so most guys will either rake it up like we do or bale it up and burn it.
We've now switched gears into fall work so the days haven't gotten any less busy. Spraying, mowing, discing, cleaning seed, rockpicking....... on and on it goes.
