Alright i searched everywhere and couldn't find a thing even google led me to toy tractor times but I'm not a member so Ill just ask. I want to make fodder and hay bales round of course. I have the general concept i think but it just isn't working right dowel rod+glue+scenic grass but it just isn't sticking right and i can see the dowel through and it falls off to easy. Should I paint them green first. and i understand if its a secret for the people who make them and sell them just let me know and i wont bother asking and just try something different. Thank you

What kind of glue are you using? Maybe Hob-e-tac glue would work. It comes in a bottle like scenic cement and is used for making the woodland scenics trees. It stays sticky after it dries though. IDK if that would work but just a thought.

Actually, wood glue seems to work the best. use your fingers to put a nice thick coat of wood glue on the dowel and roll it in your cover product.

Chad, what did you use for those bales? They look awesome!
As for glues, maybe a spray type glue would work, like a 3m supper 88? I used to use that @ my old job and it worked wonders

I used to use that @ my old job and it worked wonders I tried the spray glue once. It didn't work as well as you might think. All I was successful in doing was sticking the product to my fingers. I used real straw chopped up in my coffee grinder and sifted thru a piece of screen. I build my bales in two stages. Cover in glue, roll in product and set aside. When I'm done with the batch, I go back thru and do the ends where I was holding the bale for round 1. By this time the glue has setup well enough that it's not sticky to handle. Then I smear the ends and press them into the bowl of product. I like to compress the product (grass or straw) with my fingers when I'm all done so they look a little better.
