Hey guys i need help on how big of a baler i should get? Right now i have a John Deere 566 round baler and a John Deere 338 square baler. Im probably going to get a big square baler but i need help on if i should get a new or keep the two. We will be baling around 700 acres of alfalfa.

it depends on alot of things. Are you going to sell all the hay, do you unroll any of the bales. is the alfalfa irrigated. whats your time window for baleing. with 700 acres, I would strongly consider keeping the round baler and adding a big square. If your planning on selling all of the hay and your time window is short I would even think about just running 2 big squares. The squares are much easier to transport over long distances. It seems truckers dont like rounds, there alitte harder to get to "ride" good. If your going to be selling any hay to horse owners there more than likely going to want small squares, where as big dairies like the big squares. Rounds are easier to move as far as stacking in the field and what not and can weather the weather better without needing to be covered. Just some of my thoughts.

I would get a 568 and maybe a large square. I guess it depends on what you are going to do with the hay like Dustin said.

How many cuttings will you get? Dustin is right it all depends on the the stuff he listed, if you are planning on hauling and selling hay i would go with 2 big squares, if you plan on feeding it to all your cows i would go with one or two 568's.
