We have been staying busy on the farm. We have been fixing fence so the cows can go out to grass. Some days that is about all there is to do because it has been so crazy windy. We are a little behind on spraying because of the wind. We were starting to get really dry and the wheat was hurting. We finally got an inch of rain yesterday. It was much needed and we are thankful for it. As soon as the fields are dry enough to roll we will start putting some corn in the ground. The trucking company has been staying busy as well. I will start out with a picture of Hutch pulling in the yard with a 7820 that he was hauling. A farmer in Nebraska bought it from a dealer in Texas so we got the job to haul it home.
The farm had been looking for another tractor for planting. The dealer 60 miles south of us had an 8530 with 2000 hours on it. They had a pretty good price on it so we took it for a demo. We used it to put on some NH3. We really liked it. So we ended up buying it. Hopefully the used equipment market will stay strong and we maybe we can turn it after using it for a while and make some money on it. We like to do a little equipment jockeying. Who knows what we might plant with next year.
Mike from J&R Farms brought the scraper that they rented back. They got all of their terraces fixed finally. He said some were really a mess.
We took the dozer off of the 4960 since it is going on the planter. I really hope that there won't be any need to push snow now. ;D
We have had the planters in the shop getting them ready to plant corn. The Deere and the IH have covered a lot of acres and needed a fair bit of work. One of them will probably leave after corn planting. We are kicking around the idea of going to one 24 row planter. There was also 2 of the over the road grain haulers in for servicing. The FLX was also in being serviced.
There wasn't much going on last weekend so we went to a farm auction. We took the semi and lowboy because there was some stuff we were interested in. It all brought more than we wanted to pay. Except on item. There was a Versatile 700 on the sale. It had been repowered with an 855 Cummins. They claimed it pulled 350 horse. The original owner got tired of replacing the original 555 cummins. They were known to cause some trouble. So he put the 855 in it. It ran like a top when they fired it up. They started bidding and know one bid. I said I'll give ya 5000. I was thinking cheap horsepower. I ended up getting it for 6750. Pretty cheap in my book. So here it is coming in the yard. I sure am glad I took a truck.
We pulled the Versatile in and changed the engine oil and checked the other fluids. We also had a field cultivator in for some new shovels. We also had to install the monitors in the planting tractors.
Next we hooked the planters up and pulled them out of the shop. We were all set to roll until it started raining. Which we were thankful for.
Since we couldn't run we hooked the air seeders up to the 9530s so we could get them ready for beans. Pulling one out of the shed.
Here we are pulling the first one in the shop. We decided to use these this year and the CCS will plant cane and maybe milo.
Those 2 rigs fill the shop up.
We pulled the dozer off of the 535. We spent a couple weeks fixing the terraces so we wouldn't have to do it when we went to the field.
Getting fueled up so we can roll when it is dry enough.
They are talking about some possible thunderstorms tonight so we put the planting crew in the shed. It was a tight fit but we got them in there.
Patiently waiting to roll.
That is all for now. It is fixing to get busy before long. Questions and comments welcome.
