Hello all,
My name is Taran and my farm toy fever has started again. I have been collecting and playing with farm toys since the late 90's. Recently I decided to purchase a few farm toys (first time in many years) and now Im hooked. I pulled out my old toy stash to see what I had since its been so long. I have a few decent good condition toys that are hard to find but most of everything was thoroughly played with.
I found 2 or 3 combines that I would really like to customize. I have Case 2166, JD CTS or 9000 series (no markings) and a old New holland with no model number.
Now after my research I found a great website called Bossen Imp. Has all the stuff I think I need to make these old toys shine again.
Id like to do a stearable rear axle, maybe rear duels on one of them, front duels on JD and Case, larger tires on fron NH extended auger, bin extensions ect.
I believe I have the grain extensions figured out, except for the NH which I dont think they made them for.
Now my first question is what wheels and tires am I looking for? They all look identicle on the website. The specs they give dont make sense to me as well.
Thanks for any help TJ

if you click on the picture of the tire it takes you to a page with a larger picture and benath that picture it usally says how big the tire is ie 3/16 x 5/8. if you use the plastic rims from standi the size will stay the same. if you get the metal rims from moores farm toys it usally makes the tires bigger so its hard to get the right size unless you really understand the metric tire measurements. on the moores rims you can compare different tires on the same rim by click on the picture.
most of the time you will need at lest 46 inch rims for combines, 42s for new and large tractors and 38s for older tractors.
i dont know if you found them or not but they also have a huge selection of decals

Look up the model number of your tractor on tractor house and usually they will give you tire sizes in the details. That is how I find the correct tire size for most of my customs.

Yes I found the decals which are very nice, also going to do mirrors and some other odds and ends.
So 46 rims for the front? What about the rear? If im not going with duels in the rear then Id like to get a little bit bigger tires.
I really wish the websites had pictures of the rims installed on the tractor. Im a visual guy so looking at the blank rims and tires does not give me a comparison in my head.
Also how do you guys remove the axles? I cant figure it out for the life of me.

that's the easy part! All you do is take off one tire, then pull the axle out of the housing. -Michael

So it needs a new axle when going to duels?
This tire situation is going to be the death of me!

yup the fast easy way to solve this problem at lest until you get some more experience is to use standi rims. for an axle all you need is a bare wire clothes hanger which is more or less 3/32 in diameter. most axles on tractors are 3/32. cut the clothes hanger to the right length and the rims just press fit on. on some combines though the axle is 1/8 inch or larger so what i do is stripe the the end of a plastic coated hanger, press one rim on, figure out how long it needs to be and then stripe the other end. the wire in plastic coated hangers is some times a touch smaller then the bare ones so you might have to secure the rim with superglue. on your combines duals i would no get the dual rims though. i would get two sets on single rims and then space them out to row crop.

Perfect now we are getting somewhere!
The spacer makes complete since on a combine so I added that to my cart.
Now can any one explain the tire size on the website? 20.8 means what? R-38? I can figure out the 11/32w and 13/32h
Whats the average combine height size?
Thanks so much guys

20.8 means its 20.8 scale inches wide.
R38 means the rim is 38 inches and the tires are radial
the 2166 will probably take 42 inch rims and however wide you want. if your looking for row crop duals i would use 20.8s
the deere will probably be take either 42s or 48s if it takes 48s youll have to use moores rims which are not as simple as standi
i have no idea what the NH will be but you can compare it to the cih and deere

Why would I need to use the moores wheels if its 48? Im thinking of just going big and wide on the front of the 2166 now with a wider rear wheel and tire.
The JD 9000 Im doing the duels and a wider rear wheel/tire. All 3 tractors look like they have the same diameter wheel, just the widths are different.

Okay thanks so much!
I figured out the fronts, what is a good size for the rears?
Also what are flotation tires?

well id get the same size thats already there so they looked balanced.
i just thought of something if your deere combine is older then the front tires may be smaller. i was basing tire sizes off the new 9610 that ertl released. compare them to the 2166 to see if there the same size. if they are then you don't have to worry about the moores rims.
flotation tires are wide tires to spread the wieght of the machine so it dont sink. google some pics its kinda neat.
the 2166 rear tires are in the 36 to 32 range. bossen has both row crop and wide tires in that size just have to do some more browsing the deere rear tires should be the same but check for sure.

I know on our 2366 with singles we had 30.5R32 front and 18.4R24 in the back. Hope this gives you an idea what tires were available.

The tires on the JD are a lot wider but the same height as the 2166. Rear tires are the exact same.
I understand how it would look off with different size tires in the back, but is there anyway I can go wider on the rear? I feel with how small and skinny the rears are it would look off with duels or even wide boy flotation tires.

You guys are awesome. I have everything else figured out!
Okay one last question for you guys. Looking to make custom cultivators, and want to go with different colors. Also want to start doing some other custom tillage equipment as well!
Cant seem to find the name or paint code for any of the major manufactures
Sunflower Landoll Krouse Great plains
Also if anyone knows the paint name or color for JD, Case IH, and NH might as well throw those in as well for anyone else that may need to know.

for the big three go to your local farm store, for me its Big R, and check out the paint selection. they usally have paint to match. for the others go to dealerships. for me i get with in a 5 min drive out of my way to 3 of these every month. for krause you need to go to a khun kinght dealer and sunflower is agco.

check out Moore's farm toys too. Jeff Moore has some cool stuff on his website. www.mooresfarmtoys.comAlso check out toytractorshow.com/links/ There are a bunch of great links to find dealers, builders, info etc. I also recommend the Toytractortimes forum, it's got a lot of traffic, lots of nice builds and most of the guys there are helpful. I saw the toy tractor times forum but I refuse to pay for a membership. To me thats the complete wrong thing to do. You should want to share information and grow the community.
I guess Ill have to just call dealerships and ask. I cant find anything on line for paint codes.
