June was a very hectic, busy month. The weather was pretty unpredictable, if they called for a chance of rain, we would get a couple inches at a time. We were able to get our first crop all up though, eventually. Most of it was chopped and put in a bag or baled and wrapped. We picked up a good used wrapper a few years ago at a consignment sale. The bagger we own together with a two other neighboring farms. We were able to dry bale some of the acres, it ended up a bit faded, but the cows should eat it anyway.
First off is chopping haylage. We started on the back acres first, out by the back pasture.
Back at the farmyard filling the bag. Waiting for the load with the 986 to be done.
Parked at the end of the day.
After the bag was filled, a few days later we pulled out the wrapper to set up to wrap.
Wrapping is under way!
The neighbor brought his new flatbed over to try out.
Our baling crew parked for the day. Between wet baling and dry.
Unloading dry bales into the hay shed.
Lastly, we were able to small bale a few loads to put up in the hay mow of the dairy barn. Took the M out to pull the conveyor out and set it up by the barn.
Pulled a load out from the day before to unload while waiting for the new loads of the day.
The next few are of checking some of the things around the yard. Hay wrapped out by the back pasture, the new fuse box on the light pole and my wife’s rose bushes.
Hopefully this journal wasn’t too long and boring. I got a little behind with vacation and getting the real hay up. So far, second crop looks good. Hopefully it will be good to cut mid July. Planning on getting some of the hay fields fertilized and the rest of the beans sprayed and some of the late corn.
Thanks for reading, questions and comments welcome.
