Yeah I don't know what's going on in that first pic. Kinda think its a combination of lifting the header while hitting a low spot, making the header float springs go wonky. That be almost condidered a side hill on your farm eh? By the way... found out where your dream tractor is hiding. Down in the hills south.

Do you guys have some kind of extension on your unloading auger? Or what's the clamp thing behind the first extension? Right above the back of the second panel. I've seen them before but don't know what they are. Something for the auger stand? Ours have never had that.
That barley looks pretty tough also! Need to get the magnacut chopper haha.

Its the factory long auger, Haven't really looked to compare with any others. Probably is some extra support for the rest. Barley?? That's actually durum.... and we DO have the 128 tooth extra-fine Magna Cut chopper...... It was just that wet I used all 500 horses that day...

Looks like you guys have been pretty busy lately. What size are the old MF combines? The one looks like a 410 and the other a 550.

Durum is typically tough threshing at the best of times isn't it?

Durum is typically tough threshing at the best of times isn't it? Yes and no. Really depends on the variety. "Strongfield" durum is about as hard threshing as it comes. So much so that Case IH likes to sell a hard thresh kit for their flagship combines with this durum (and flax) in mind. Of the varities we're growing here. They've been pretty easy threshing. This crop was a new variety last year that we've been growing the foundation seed for. It's a little tougher than the previous generations (namely AC Navigator, Comander, and Brigade Varities). Nowhere near Strongfield tough though. Navigator is/was exceptionally easy to grow and thresh. The straw rots fast and takes nothing to chop up. Turns to powder in the combine. We've only got 480 acres of that in this year, compared with 800 of the new stuff. Seems like after 15 years, their trying to phase it out.

Oh man I'm not even classy enough to have a neighbour with a 4890 that nice. Even if I could muster enough class it would probably look like this.... ...and you bet I'm looking forward to getting my Timmies doughnuts in a box that can be folded into a crown!!!

There is a guy that live close to us that has a unit like that except he made it out of a John Deere tractor. I'm not sure of the model of tractor he used because all the tin work is missing like most of his machinery. lol Those were awesome combine back in their day. I still have one tucked away in the bush that is just waiting for me to to call upon to take in the field again. Maybe this year it might get a chance to do some combining in the oats.

I haven't had to test out the 7010 but we did have two kinds of W wheat in the same field last year and the difference in threshing was night and day how much easier the one was. I find it interesting how the same basic plant can take so much more effort to work through than another one. what comes in the Hard thresh kit? a Steinbacher chip and new warranty?

what comes in the Hard thresh kit? a Steinbacher chip and new warranty? Lol... 2 Extra fine wire Concaves and a top blank for the top right of the rotor cage. We don't use the kit. But our neighbours do. Of course we don't grow Strongfield either.

For how much they charge for large wire concaves (2 of which didn't fit right) I don't think I would worry to much about extra fine ones, just get the brothers to fab up a blank and go. ;-)
