Last week was a busy week at the farm. We got all but 200 acres of soybeans in the ground before the rain started Monday night. We started putting alfalfa down early in the week. The 2 swathers can cover a lot of acres.
It was hot and windy so it dried down pretty quick. We got a good portion of it baled before the rains came. We are thinking we may need to add another rake because it can barely stay ahead of the balers.
We had a transport load of fuel delivered this week. We have been burning quite a bit lately.
We also got started drilling cane on Thursday. The 535 is on field cultivator duty.
The 8870 and CCS are drilling the cane. Here is the drill being filled with fertilizer.
Drilling.
The sprayers have also been running hard when the wind isn't blowing too much.
On Monday night and Tuesday morning we got about 3 inches of rain. It was needed so we didn't mind. It will really give the freshly planted crops a boost and should make the wheat crop. It sprinkled and was damp all day so we decided it would be a good day to move the custom crew down to Oklahoma to be ready to roll down there. We haven't sent combines south for quite a few years so we aren't set up the best. If it works out good we may get some better trailers and use the semis to pull the combines. Here they are pulling out of the yard. (You will just have to pretend the duals are off the combines because they aren't removable. )
The 8440 is going to be the grain cart tractor on this run. At least till they get back to this area. It will be handy if they get a combine stuck.
The CXT is pulling the 2 pups that the grain trucks will pull once they get down there.
Depending on the yields and whether they are needed or not we may send a couple of the semis down also. We will just wait and see if they are needed or not. The crew left early this morning and are bringing the CXT back. They will be back late tonight. I guess we will have plenty of time to spray musk thistle this week until it drys out. That is all for now. Questions and comments welcome.
