I recently downloaded Google Sketch Up and started to mess around with designing a few simple things. Long story short I spent a fair amount of time designing a set of rims and it turns out they will not print right due to the number of actual sides in a circular object. Is there a better program to use? Or a way to make Sketch Up work? Thanks!

you might try onshape.com as it is close to a real 3d cad program used in industry.

Blender is free and is open source so it can be used if you want to sell what you make. Most any other program requires you to buy a licence and they can get expensive.
