So im getting all my equipment lined up for this new display like it says above. I have a disc that works but im tryin to figure out what size plow I need and how to make it? Im also trying to figure out what size of cultivator I need? Also it seems every farm has a "main" barn. Like an old bank barn or just a large old barn. I'm not sure what kind of barn would fit my needs so any insight on that two would help too. Thanks, Tyler
I should add that the tillage equipment is going to be used with a 4450 2wd.

I would say around 5-6 bottoms, but I'm going by the soil type in my area. Which is more red clay based. So its a heavier pull on the tractor. I have saw a 5 bottom work a John Deere 4430 hard.

I usually base my layouts off of my own farm, or farms in my area, and what will fit best on the size board I have as a base. What size equipment do "smaller" farms run around you? In my area farms between 200 - 500 acres their biggest tractor is either a Case 2390,Case 2594, John Deere 4430, or John Deere 4840. As of what I see for field cultivators behind them is usually a Case 4800, or John Deere 960. For barns, what are you trying to represent? A current dairy operation, current beef operation, or current hog operation? or does the farm just run cash crops and the barn will sit empty? From what I see I see of IA when I take the drive for nationals, visiting a fiend, or on a jobsite, there are a lot of beef farms, and empty hog buildings. An old barn could be converted into a shop, or used for storage, or just an old learn to or farrowing house could be sitting empty over grown with trees or bushes. Maybe you should sit down and think a little bit more of what you want, what will fit the story line the best, and what will fit on the display board the best.

This is what I go by on the majority of my displays. I look around at the locals and see what they are running. And use that as a base idea.

I bought my plows from www.farmtoysforfun.com/custom.html or mooresfarmtoys.com/customimplements

Yeah I get what you guys are saying. Round here the main tractor is a 4440 or 4450 as the main work horse with old 3020 or smaller for lighter duty work. Im going for an old dairy or beef farm that now only grow corn and soybeans and raise a few quarter horses. I wouldn't mind doing an old bank barn but not sure what style to go with. Theres quite a few varieties around here. Even with the tillage especially plows everybody's different. Mostly 4-6 bottom for the smaller farms and the larger ones run 10-12 bottom plows.

This is what I see in my area using about the same set up.
Main tractor - 125-150HP size. Used for primary tillage, however in my case. We 100% notill, so they are now used on drills or round balers. 2nd Tractor - 80-115HP size. Used for 2nd pass on tillage. Baling or mowing and other jobs that the main one don't do. 3rd tractor - 40-90HP size. This is the primary chore tractor. Mowing, raking, wagons, corn planter, etc. 4th tractor - Usually a vintage range. These are used some in a pinch like the wagons and rake. And doing other chores. Like running augers, etc.
If your going to run a dairy of that size. You will need around 6 tractors for the operation. One will be on the feeder duty most of its life.

Around here (Northeast Texas) 4430s, 4440s, and 4450s are the big guns for that size operation. Our neighbor farms a little over 400 and has 3 4440s, all identical. We've managed decently for several years with a 4250 and 4555 on 1,100 acres, but we're taking on more land this fall and will have to come up with another tractor soon.
Almost everyone around here quit using breaking plows years ago, so I'm not sure about what a tractor that size would handle. As for the cultivator, we have a 24ft John Deere 960. We pull it with the 4250 (120hp) fairly often when our 4555 is on the disk, and it usually handles it fine. Don't think I'd put it on anything smaller, though.
Ground here is dense blackland, gray dirt, or a mix between the two, so I don't know how comparable it would be with you guys.
Sounds like fun, best of luck!

Well with all this info I think im getting a pretty good idea if what im going to do. Now my next question. Has anyone turned an ertl dairy barn into a realistic looking bank barn?
