With Grandpa and Grandma getting older & not physically capable of doing things they once did on their farm dad and I have been helping them out a lot lately. All of our farms are considered hobby or weekend farms. My family, and my parents we have jobs outside of the farms and do chores or field work after work or the weekends. Grandpa and Grandma had an auction and sold most of their equipment besides some older pieces they collect and use for their "garden" Between all 3 farms our main workhorse is a Case Agriking 1170 Golden Demo. It does everything from tillage, planting, haying, to hauling wagons, and splitting wood. We didn't want to be to dependent on just one tractor and was looking for something with a little bit more power and nicer more comfortable cab since we added grandpa and grandma's acres onto ours. Since summer we were kind of looking and after harvest saw an ad in the state farmer paper of an auction down in IL that had a 2594. These tractors are kind of hard to find in our area, medium size dairies have them on tmrs, hauling wagons, or spreaders. Between myself, dad, and grandpa we got $14,000 (it seems what these tractors age going for)together and decided to take the 2 hour trip down to the auction together. The farmer down there was retiring from cash crop farming. The history of the 2594 was he bought it brand new for a planting tractor, and over the years it got down graded to jobs more and more until finally it was an auger tractor. We were biding against 3 other farmer and won with a $13,500 bid. Feeling pretty full of ourselves getting the tractor and not wanting to tell the women we didn't spend all the money at the auction we decided to stop at the casino on the way home.......After we had our fun and got the tractor to grandpa's it was late afternoon. We decided to put it in the shop to check it over and the next morning do some late fall tillage. The tractor is a really nice upgrade to the 1170, and might be looking at investing in bigger tools to pull behind it.
