It has been a busy one around the farm for the last couple of weeks. Wheat harvest 09 is in the history books. Things went well with out too many breakdowns. Had to replace a water pump on the 7720 and a couple bearing on the 9600. Normal stuff that you get when you run older machines. The yields were good anywhere from 40 to 68 bpa. With test weights from 59 to 63. All in all other than the weather not being the most cooperative it was a good harvest. Now on with the pics. Cutting the last field.
Emptying the rest of the grain off the cart as the loaded truck pulls away.
Here they are putting some seed wheat on the old truck. They will leave it on it until cleaning and planting time. They also will store some on the grain cart.
Pulling the header off of the 9600 to head home.
They windrowed about 80 acres of straw to use for bedding. Don baled it once they got done with harvest.
Mike is disking the continuous wheat ground on the newly acquired land. They have about 100 acres of continuous to disk.
Don is working the summer fallow on the same landlord. There is around 90 acres of it they are conventional tilling this summer.
They are spraying their no till summer fallow. They are really liking the floater. They are glad they bought it. It has really sped up the process of spraying.
They also had the second cutting of alfalfa ready right in the middle of wheat harvest. Luckily for that project it was humid and they couldn't get cutting early so they took that time to lay down hay.
They baled a lot of it at night after they got done cutting or early in the morning. It makes for some long days but it has to be done.
Now it is time to clean up combines and put them back in the shed until fall harvest. The yard is full.
That is all for now. Questions and comments welcome.
