Acreage: 40,000 acres of corn, 15,000 acres of soybeans
About: Johnson Farming & Trucking was found back in 1894 by Harry Johnson, in central Illinois . Over the years it has gone through many changes. At one time it was a large cattle farm. In 1986 we started the trucking division, which we think was the foundation of our present day size, because we believe with out transportation you won’t go anywhere. Within in the past 12-14 years it has changed directions again. We have focused heavily on diversifying operations. In 1996 we started a test plot of repetitive corn on corn. We are still testing this out. We have been pleased so far and noticing gradual yield increases. We have noticed best results with Pioneer, DeKalb, and NK. About 10 years ago we became a licensed seed dealer for Pioneer seeds. In 2003 we worked with GSI too build a state of the art grain handling system. When we built the grain system we installed grain cleaners, to separate fines and red dog. The fines are sold various feed lots for cattle feed. Simultaneously in 2003 we started working with private investors and local government officials on starting a 60 million gallon annually ethanol plant, which was finished in early 2005. We’re not sure what our next project will be, but it won’t be anything small. We’re always looking to grow, and we hope for it to be with you!
