This will finish up my field journals until spring.
Now that the fields are all drilled in grain. Either wheat, barely, oats, or rye. For the row crop farmers who still till up their grounds. Over time tilling takes it toil on the terraces. And wears them down, making them more flat. Which will lead to erosion during wet weather.
This past week been nuts. First of the week it was sunny and chilly. Didn't take the farms long to get the terraces done. All you do is plow 1-2 laps on them. Then move to the next terrace or field. Then Tuesday it got cloudy. Wednesday and Thursday we got rain off and on for both days and nights. Friday and Saturday it was just cold in the 30s with more clouds.
Gilbert Dairy:
They quickly plowed up their fields with the terraces. These will be till in spring for corn. The corn silage fields are now in grain. They will take care of those terraces when they chop the grain for silage. Their IH 1086 does well on the plow.
Disaster hits!
During those 2 days of rain it took a beating on their manure lagoon. Last year's drought weakened down one of the earth walls. Usually it is nice around it with grass. This year we had some wet spells. So with these too it made one side weak. On of the workers saw manure starting to come out of the weak side. They hurried back with the news. Keith got out there quickly on the IH TD15 dozer and got busy on it. Soon it was fixed and all the manure was cleaned up. Lucky not much was spilled, so they got it just in time.
Keith having fun in the rain.
Seat Ranch:
They got out their old trusty 1270 on the plow.
Finally the 1270 with loader is fixed. The clutch lost a couple of springs and made shifting impossible. Now they are trying out the new clutch plowing terraces.
Heavner Farm:
Here is the 4320 and 8000 on the plow.
Wehunt Farm:
They used the G900 and G1355.
Note - I only have this JD plow to use. After Christmas is over I will see about getting another brand to use. The Semi Mount type is our type of plow. So I will get with Moores on getting another color to play with.
