We have been staying busy around the farm. We have had some rain to work around but that is a good problem to have in my opinion. We started picking high moisture corn for the feedlot on Tuesday afternoon. We started on a field that got hit pretty hard by hail. We decided to got this route with it instead of silage because it was farther than we wanted to haul silage. We try to keep the silage close to home if possible to cut down on the hauling bill. This corn was light weight with small kernels due to the fact that the plant was killed before the corn was mature. It yielded around 75 bpa, it would have been double if it hadn't been hailed. Such is farming though.
Unloading.
First load going on the truck.
They weren't quite set up at the pit when the first truck got there. The second truck was there before they got started unloading. We put the corn through the tub grinder then it is packed in the bunker. We have a special set of screen for the grinder for corn.
The 8630 and 7520 are on packing duty.
The end dump even got in on a little corn hauling when he was done hauling wet distillers for the day.
We finished the project late in the week and got the plastic on the bunker.
We have also been weaning some calves when we get the chance in between other projects. We are hoping to be done before wheat drilling time. Which is only a week away. Hopefully we can get most of them done next week. Here is a pot load coming into the yard to weigh before unloading at the feedlot.
We have also been baling cane in the late afternoons. We have been having lots of foggy and wet mornings so it is putting us a little behind on baling. We are trying to get them hauled home or lined on the edge of the field after we bale them. We are planning to put wheat in behind most of the cane.
Minkler Ag has been staying busy with spraying and fertilizer. They have been putting some dry fertilizer on wheat ground for some customers.
We are hoping that our 535 will be done with all of the dirt moving projects it has lined up in time to pack silage. It is leased on to a local contractor to help him with some projects. It is home for a few hours to get a servicing.
We also sold our old Versatile 700 this week. Here it is leaving the yard.
We replaced it with a nice looking 8850 with the big rubber on it. We found it in eastern Colorado. It was still with it's original owner. It has 4579 hours on it. He said he bought 2 of them new. The other one was plagued with engine problems and was sold quickly. Then he bought 2 big Steigers. He never used this 8850 as much. He just decided it was time to replace it before he spent a bunch of money on it. We picked it up for 28,000. It has 4 hyds and a pto. We kind of have a working collection of John Deere 4wds so we decided to add this one. We now have a 7520, 8630, 8440, and now an 8850. Here it is unloading in the yard.
The shop has been a busy place on the farm as well. The air seeders on in getting ready to drill wheat. The 8850 also went in so it could be looked over good to make sure it was ready to go. It will be going on a field cultivator in about a week or so. We have also been replacing shovels on some of the field cultivators to make sure they are ready to roll.
The 900 is hooked up and ready to go once the new shovels get put on.
Well that is all for now. Sorry for being so long winded. Questions and comments welcome.
