They haven't had to worry about getting bored around the farm for the last couple of weeks. Wheat drilling is going good and they should be about wrapped up in the first couple weeks of October. Depending on whether they can get the corn and beans off that they want to put wheat in behind. They started with the conventional tilled ground. Since it was a little damp the week of the 21st when they started drilling. The no-till was too wet to get into. Mike ran ahead of Don with the 7520 and the mulchmaster.
While Mike was getting ahead of him Don filled the drill. They blend their starter fertilizer and wheat together so they only have to have one truck to tend the drill.
This is their first season of wheat drilling with the ccs. So far they are really pleased with it. They got it in November of last year. It had a lot of acres on it so they went through it as a winter project. Here it is in action.
Fueling up to be ready to roll for the next day.
Mike took some time one morning to mow some weeds out in the pasture.
Once Mike got done working ground in front of the drill he started cutting beans. About 2/3s or the beans are ready to go. They are wanting to get them cut so they can drill wheat behind them.
They have a retired guy that lives in town that runs the truck for them some when they are busy. That way Mike can keep cutting.
When he was taking a load of beans to town he took some pics of some farming action that was going on.
An N6 cutting beans.
Some wheat being drilled into bean stubble.
Another farmer drilling wheat.
Yard about isn't big enough.
As soon as they get done with the beans they are going to try and get some corn picked so they can drill it to wheat. Plus they have the 4th cutting of alfalfa to get done. That is all for now. Questions and comments welcome.
I thought I would share this pic. I found this little propane tank at hobby lobby and thought it would look nice on my display. It is not the right scale but it is close enough for me.
