SOrry for the lack of pics. I did this in my dormroom and I dont have a display ready anyway.
Well it’s been a bit wet in central Indiana. Cold weather has come earlier than usual. While I have been away at school the family has been getting things ready to go. Now it is just a waiting game. The 9650 is ready to roll and both heads are lookin’ hungry. I called dad the other night so I could find out when I needed to be home and he said he’d let me know because of the rain. The crops are still drying down anyway he said. He said that we would be running all the equipment we can this fall because the last couple springs have been so screwy. That means my cousin Tyler will be coming down to help. He goes to school with me at Purdue so we’ll just drive down together. Dad said the 4430 will be stalk chopping, the 4960 will be on the grain cart as usual, and we would have to bring my 4620 out to disk. I was excited to hear this cuz I don’t get to spend enough time workin’ with her. I run it on an 18’ JD 220 Powerflex disk. Tyler will be doing the stalk chopping. After the crops are in the 4960 will be moved to the 29’ disk. The Versatile be doing some tillage if weather permits. We should be getting ready to drill winter wheat with the 4430 on the Tye drill.
Fall break is next weekend and I’ll be going home and plan to get some work done with the cattle. We have some calves that are too big to be in the nursery anymore and need to be moved to the feeder calf barn. Some calves also need to be moved to the feedlot. We really need to haul manure but we are gonna wait to get some crops off the fields. I’ll just put it into the pile outside til then. Hunting season is also in full swing here in IN so I might try to get a couple ours in the woods in. It’ll be nice being home and seeing the family and spendin’ some time on the farm.
4960 waiting for some action
O i almost forgot, here are some pics of the new feeder calf barn i was talking about. (barn built by Daryl Stangler)
It has been working out pretty well. Its nice to start the baby calves in the show barn and then move them over tho this shed. From there we take them over to the feed lot to finish out. We built a new calf trailer recently that we use to take the calves from the show barn to the feeder barn. (hope to get it designed and built soon and get some pics up. i saw one up here at school that they hauled pigs in)
As for the cow herd we rotate them from the pasture at the house to the pasture over on the feed lot during the summer. That way they have their calves at home.
