Fall harvest has come to a slow stop here at K&J Farms. If it wasn't for the 3 inches of rain and about an inch of snow. All we have been doing is hauling bales back to the farm. We kept all 4 semis and 3 of the 4 gooseneck flatbeds busy for about 5 days. The only bales that made there way back to the farm was the third cutting of alfalfa. The first two cuttings where piled in the fields and covered with tarps. We got about half of the 5100 acres of beans cut before the rain started.Hopefully the weather changes soon so we can get back to the beans and the move onto the almost 9000 acres of corn. We finally got the new combines in so we can get them ready for the rest of the beans and the corn. The dealer is allowing us to keep 2 of the Cat 485's around to help out with beans then the corn. We replaced 3 of the 485s with Cih 7088s & the other 3 with Cih 9120s. The Cats where getting up there in hours so decided to trade them off while they where still running good. The local dealer made us a real good deal on the new combines. We was going for 6 new 9120s but they come up with 3 7088s that that another customer didn't want anymore so we took them instead of the other 3 9120s which saved us some money. We also got the 6 disks out and ready to go when the ground dries up a little bit. We also got all the bins cleaned out ready for the corn. We have enough room for about 550,000 bushels of corn. The rest of it is contracted at the local ethanol plant and the rest of the beans at a soybean plant about 45 miles away. We hired 7 part time truck driver to help with the harvest. We got all 12 of the semis with 6 hopper bottoms & 6 end dumps& the 6 straight trucks with pups to keep all the crop moving to the bins. Hopefully the white stuff holds off for about another month or so till we get most of the corn out before the snowballs fly.
