October has been a wet month in this area. We have had very few productive days in the fields. Early in the month we had five straight days of drizzle. I was just wet enough no harvesting or drilling could be done. We did manage to get most of the calve weaned in that time frame though. So that helped. We haven't had more than 2 or 3 days of being in the fields at a time. Last Saturday, Sunday and Monday we were able to hit the fields a little bit. We ran as hard as we could on those days. We had the 3 big combines working on getting soybeans off the field.
The beans were yielding pretty good and it was keeping the carts hopping. Since the fields and dirt roads were so muddy they were having to cart them almost a mile to the trucks due to some muddy draws.
Over the weekend we were taking the beans to our own storage. It was saving us time and we have had plenty of time to haul them back out to the terminal due to the weather. That does cause them to be handled more but we can't really do anything else.
The drills were running right behind the combines. The only wheat we have left to drill is the soybean ground and we might have to give up on it if it doesn't dry out.
Our custom crew is still up in Nebraska trying to cut beans. We are wishing we would have kept them here to work on our beans, then ours would prolly be done. They were going to pick up some corn acres up there too, but we might have to bring them home to do our own.
They are in really good beans. Luckily they have a short haul so they have been able to keep up with 2 trucks.
It started drizzling again on Tuesday. We have been at a standstill since. We got rain on Wednesday and Thursday. It is extremely muddy. We are hoping to possibly pick some corn tomorrow but it doesn't look to promising. At least the trucks have been able to stay busy. Here are the cattle pots fueling up to go to Lebanon to get loaded at a feedlot. One had to repair a flat tire.
We had Mike bring in a load of fuel for the truck tank this week. With all of our trucks we go through a lot of fuel.
With the wet weather we have had plenty of time to work in the shop. We are cleaning the ccs up for the season. That way the 8870 can go on a grain cart. The wet cake truck was in for a service job. The blue and white Pete had to have new brakes on the drive axles. We are going to run out of shop projects before long.
Hopefully we can get in the field this coming week. We have 300 acres of beans and all the corn and milo. This could be a long harvest. That is all for now. Questions and comments welcome.
