Wet and dry corn harvest 2009

Pt. One- The week before the Natl show I went and unloaded wet corn all day. We were filling the 18X70 ft silo.






Pt. 2
Well due to wet fall weather and the corn not drying down we havent got to the field as early as would have been nice. Ground is wet but amazingly the 7720 wont get stuck. Nothing has got stuck this year. Got beans done, wet corn is done, and we chopped some earlege last week.

The cold summer ment the corn never matured so we have a lot of 48 test weight corn. Elevator doesnt want a bushel of corn under 50lbs. Went hunting for some corn heavy enough and its thought this little 15 acre patch is heavy enough. Corn isnt great, wet its probably 200 but by the time it gets dryed out enough its hitting 165.

I am really glad I welded the hopper ext up for for my metalshop project last fall. Makes harvest way easier. Never have to wait for a cart and can make 1/2 mile rounds now. 7720 handles it great to. Runs out of power in this sticky stuff with an 8 row if we were unloading on the go but we arent so thats no concern.

This has been a crazy year. I bet you still could combine high moisture corn now. We are still plugging away on soybeans; hopefully we should be done this week. That looks like a heck of a hopper topper. What does it hold now?

We got done with beans last wednesday I think. The hopper now holds around 250+ Stock was like 190 and the hopper itself holds 40 plus the 20 or so the side extentions hold.

I dont know if just our 7720 is such a bad smoker or if its all 7720's. Engine was blown a few years ago so I dont know if it got turned up a little or what.

It must be turned up a little. I have been around quite a few and never seen one smoke quite like that. My friends 8820 will roll some smoke pretty good once in a while.

More pictures from yesterday. This corn is light and wet. Getting sick of LP bills, theres room in the silo, and we dont have any corn contracted that we dont have. More silo filling time.

It is official, there needs to be another tractor. The 4255 was on the stalk chopper, and the 4240 has the loader on it. The 4320 is a pig on the cart. Would handle it fine with duals, but that deere cab kills the thing.
