Hi everyone. Well another displaying season has come and gone for me. I havn't done too well with my newest layout like have in the past with other displays. I thought my layout was pretty good with all the detail and custom buildings, but I releized that a 4x2 doesn't do justice compared to a 4x8 or bigger display, I might have something simple and eye catching detail in every inch but seems like everyone is looking for size..........even though in my opion most layouts I see at shows are half just fields. I decided for the 1st time to build a bigger layout. Right now it's going to be a 4x6 but might become s 4x8. I'm going to build a replica of my grandpas farm in memory of him. He passed away before I was born my family has plenty of pictures of the farm and all the equipment(all IH......1086 1066 706..........) The farm has been bought and sold multiple times and now currently has almost all the buildings down and nothing but junk vehicles all around so I thought it'd be kind of cool to replicate it in it's glory days. I'm going to try my hand at scratch building everything. Not sure if I'll just paint the buildings or actually use stryene. Here's a picture of the farm.

wow can't wait until i see it completed, if it's anything like your other work i know it'll be great! don't get down about not doing well at shows. all the shows i've been to it seems like it's who you know, the judges are younger with out much display or farm knowledge, and it's the size that matters. I saw a guy who had basicly an 8x8 field who won out of a guy who had a 4x4 display with all buildings and custom tractors. I think maybe your problem is the size and you set high standards with your experiance. Maybe you should detail the inside of the house, or barn, or leave one end open........I know you don't see any farms like that except after a twister but thats what you might have to do. Good luck.
