Hello all. Well it has been a very long time since you all have last heard from Big E Farms. Which means we have been really busy hustling around tring to get things done.
Last year ('09)
Cotton harvest went well. Our yeilds weren't as good as last years but you couldn't argue with them. They were fair.
we also have been top dressing our wheat and cleaning out the grain bins after we planted wheat.
We bought a 13 shank ripper at an auction. it was a good price for how old it was. I went and picked it up at the auction yard.
After we got it unloaded i went to try it out on some cotton ground.
Coming back after doing some ripping.
Next week.
What a christmas surprise. A week before christmas the daeler called and said our tractors were in. So we loaded up the ol' 8330 to take it in.
Christmas eve
The weather man is calling for some nasty weather to come in. It will be the first white christmas in a long time. The power crews came and parked some trucks at my house so they could get a good atart on power outages the day after christmas.
After one of the worst ice storms in decades and 4 days without power it was a heck of a way to start out the new year.
Present day
I got the disc ready to go plow and smooth out the cotton ground so we could start planting in the next few weeks.
Hired hand hooked up one of the new 8Rs up to the cotton planter and one to the grain cart. It is getting that time of year again.
Hired hand making a planter/combine parts run.
While he was gone i got the combines ready to move out and moved a 8R and graincart in the barn.
Got the heads on and then started changing the sickle sections and sickle guards.
Then we started on the planter.
While they were doing that i went and hooked up the gooseneck trailer so i could go get cotton seed the next morning.
Ahh the hustle and bustle of farm life.
Questions comments welcome. Thanks for reading.
