hi i'm currently building a display for a local county fair our layouts can't be any bigger than 4x4 the last couple years ive always got a 1st or 2nd and even a top honors for showing. The judges at the fair look for realism, layout, details, and no ertl buidings. I always nonticed they make sure the drive way is the same width all around, and they don't care too much about customs.
I want to go to the next level and build or take that layout to the Ripon WI show.........the biggest WI show, but not too sure what i'm going to be judged on. I've been going to the show the last couple years to walk around and get ideas. Do you need to have a certain size layout? can't be too big? can't be too small? I saw theres usually a really small layout there with 2 buildings on but TONS of detail on it but it never seems to do too well up against the bigger layouts. I also noticed that just field scenes are popular does that fall under a FARM scene? or is that a seperate catorglory? Also how many judges are there? is it different ages? and do they all come around once? I talked to a couple displayers at the show and asked how they did or what they could improve on and they said the judge never tell them what they did wrong or what they could improve. Would this be something the judges could do ?
At other shows all of you been to what have you been judged on? Sorry i'm asking so many questions i just want to build the perfect layout.

Hi Chad I help with the Ripon show, yes we have a size limit which is 8ft by 8ft, we have three judges and a junior and senior division. Field scenes are also considered farm scenes. If you have anymore questions about the ripon show just ask. Gordy
