Harvest was officially concluded about a week ago for us and very few people in this area have anything left unless they have sunflowers or milo. I did not get to many pictures of harvest this year due to spending more time in the combine. Luckily my brother noticed the camera was in the tractor and took some pictures for me.
The last field of corn we had a somewhat unexpected visitor, the CIH dealer had been wanting to bring out a new combine for a couple years now but dad was not ready to upgrade. Finally he let them bring one out this year. We started on the end rows with the old machine while they were setting up the new one
Grain tank is a LOT bigger
Next 4 pics are courtesy of my brother. (he is the better camera man)
Only picture of milo harvest
The dealer has been stocking up on Magnums before they change to tier IV, no pictures yet but that whole row is now new sprayers.
Cool looking drilling setup
Now onto the couple accidents
Just up the road we have what is becoming a million plus bushel grain setup. Unfortunately it seems they spent all their money on bins rather than driveways.
Driveway is about 25 foot wide, coming off of a highway that should not be that difficult but when you have your truck in the middle of the drive your trailer is going to have issues
The next one was a bit more serious, my brothers co-worker was actually the first one on the scene, copy and pasted from the email I received:
Terry was driving by Simpson today (east of Beloit) and there was a disc sideways in the road on the bridge. He pulled up and there was a tractor over the side upside down 20' below the bridge. The driver was still in the cab. He called 911 and the fire department had to use the Jaws of Life to cut him out of the cab. Two broken legs and glass cuts all over from what he could see. Terry said he was conscious and moaning about how he might lose his job but he didn't look too hot. They hauled him to the Beloit Hospital. The guy was lucky he was on the bank because another couple of feet and he'd have been upside down in the river with no way out. Terry said he'd wished he'd taken one more picture of the edge of the river bank, he said the tractor was just on the edge of the steep bank.
One of the wings on the disc dropped over onto the ground while he was in road gear. It hit the bridge railing and yanked him over the side. Terry said you could see it had swung down before the bridge...dirt on the road, took out a mail box and then hit the bridge.
According to what I heard later the guy broke both legs and suffered from lots of glass cuts but was otherwise alright, no life threatening injuries.
