Might get a video up someday when I have that much time. HA! like that will happen...
I worked all our stalks with a 20 foot smart till... LONG hours when your used to running 30' equipment but then again I was running 8-8.5 mph.
As for the smart till, We love the job its doing. Goes in deeper then the aerway and will break more ground. It wont bury trash but that isnt what we are wanting. The harrow does a great job but the bearings dont last. Glad we didnt buy it as the up keep would be kinda high on it. But it does a wonderful job. Leaves the ground loose and soft but the trash is leveled out behind it and is still half way attached to the ground as to prevent erosion. I was running as deep as it would go and around 8-8.5 depending on how rough the field was. It pulls like a 25' aerway as it goes in the ground deeper and ultimately does more. Overall im VERY Impressed! We will hit this in the spring withy the supercoulter. THe main reason for this is to shatter compaction and work deeper with minimal cover disturbance. The supercoulter will make a looser but more shallow seed bed and cut through the trash so the planter will have no problem. I think this is the best way to plant into stalks for bean or corn in our soils. They wanted $40,000 for it so we didnt purchase it haha
As compared to the SuperCoulter or "Turbo-TIll" we run, Well its not the same thing. Same kinda tillage but it doesnt do what our supercoulter or "turbo till" does. It goes in deeper and works the soil more down deeper. Maybe in a year with less compaction we will run our supercoulter over them but IMO and I think Dad is the same way, Aerating in the fall and once over with the turbo till in the spring for corn stalks going into beans is ideal. Aerating loosens the soil up more but leaves the cover so it holds more moisture in the soil but it wont stay muddy after a rain. Hitting it with the turbo till in the spring makes a nice loose shallow seed bed on top and cutting, not burying the trash.
Ill start out about 4 pm. Just got to the field to start racing dad in the challenger. I was filling ditches.
Dad switchin tanks before he moves.
We havnt gotten hardly any manure hauled so far...
Now this is around 7. I was just out here to take pics as it isnt practical to fill ditches at night.
Towin doubles. both filled when the first runs out you un hook the back one then pull up and drop the empty one and hook back up to the full one.
