Well here is the final lineup for my display. About the only things that I still might change are the tractors and the grain drill. Other than those things i think this is pretty well the finalized version of things. I hope to get this display completed before i leave for college in 3 1/2 years but I probably wont be able to have it up to my liking by that point in time. I am taking my time on this and adding as much detail as I can into each item to make it as realistic as possible. Let me know what you guys think and what needs changed or added. Stewart Farms:
Location- North West Kansas
Land- 5,500 acres, 5000 owned, 500 rented. All dry land crops, may start experimenting with drip irrigation
Crops- Seed wheat 3,000; corn 1,600; milo 900
Crop rotations:
Basic rotation for 2,500 acres of the land
Year 1- wheat planted in summer fallow.
Year 2- wheat stubble put into chem.-fallow
Year 3- corn or milo no-tilled into chem.-fallow, corn or milo is harvested and ground put into summer fallow
Year 4- in the fall, crop rotation begins again
Wheat on Wheat
Year 1- wheat planted in summer fallow
Year 2- wheat harvested, ground put into summer fallow, wheat planted again in the fall
Farming Practices- Minimum tillage on summer fallow, spraying in chem.-fallow, paraplow used on headlands and other high compaction areas.
Grain handling- corn and seed wheat stored on farm and rented bins on other farms. Milo goes to Cargill elevator. Seed wheat is cleaned by mobile seed cleaner.
Custom work- custom spraying is done with both Rogators with our land being worked into the schedule, sprayers are transported by Volvo trucks and 50 foot sprayer trailers. Some custom cutting may be possible if another farmer needs help or a combine is not being used.
History- Family owned farm, Son took over from father and the father still drives truck during the fall. 2 full time employees and 8 others drive trucks during fall.
