Over the weekend I went to pick it up. Its not new, but new to the farm. The farmer parked it after the bearing went out that runs the sickle. And he parked it, bought a new disc mower to replace it. And it's was sitting along side the woods since. So I saw it and asked about it. He sold it to me for 80 dollars. So I decided to see if it is worth working over. And get it back to mowing shape. If its too costly, well off to scrap it will go. And I will use that money for something else. So far the list to fix is the sickle bearing, the header needs bearings where the beaters spin in the mounts, sickle bar. Who knows what more there will be. New Holland 472:

Those tires don't look to good! I'm guesing your gonna want to replace a couple knives if it's been sitting in the woods. But who knows, it could be up and running after a couple new bearings are slipped in and it gets some major greasing.

Holy crap. I wish I could find one for 80 dollars. The cylinder is worth that. It should have at least that much iron in it anyway.

So far I think its salvageable. We will see what it runs once I start gathering up stuff for it. The tires are holding air for now. If they don't hold up they will be replaced.
Only rusted areas is the top near the back, and the deck behind the sickle. Even that is minor in the corners. Some metal welded and grind smooth will do wonders there. I will keep the progress updated to see what happens. I wouldn't mind replacing that side that been torn up and kinda patched. But that will be later, first to get it working.

never seen a discbine just pictures see those 3 point bag mowers around here and they still intrege me Disc mowers and disc bines are very popular in my area. As they cut fast and more efficient than a sickle type mower. Sickle type mowers are about a thing of the past in my area.
