We have been staying busy on the farm. We have brought the heifers home. Calving will start in a couple of weeks. Our Deere dealer brought us a demo tractor out this week. It is a 2005 7520 with IVT and loader. They had it sitting on the lot so we asked if we could try it out. Our loader tractors are getting some age on them so we are starting to think about replacements. We will have to wait and see how the summer goes whether we get anything or not. We used it to feed the tub grinder and now it is feeding cows. It seems to be a pretty good tractor so far. If we get a new one it will either be a Puma or a Deere. Here is the 7520 on the H&S wagon. The new feedwagons are working quite nice also.
Minkler Ag has also been topdressing some wheat for some customers. We will probably start doing some of our own when time and weather permits us to do so. David called on Thursday and said that the Ag Chem 8103 wasn't shifting right. He was going to try and finish the field he was on to get it empty so we could bring it in to check it out. He had about 3 acres left and he gave up. I put the lowboy on the Transtar and went and got him. We had to send the FLX over to finish his field.
Leaving with the trailer.
Here we are back with the floater.
Now to unload it and put it in the shop. Mike tackled it as soon as it got inside.
I put the Transtar back on the hopper because we have been using it to haul fertilizer down from the blend plant at Johnson Ag.(We are partnered with them in our crop production division.) So we don't have to run so far with the tender truck when we are spreading down in this area. I put it in the shop so Ben could service it.
The FLX has been performing very well. So far we are quite pleased with it. We got it last March toward the end of top dressing time. If the Ag Chem keeps causing downtime it may be replaced with another Flx as well. Time will tell on that. Here is the FLX loading up.
Off and spreading. It will really eat up the acres.
Heading to the next field.
The tender truck had to run back to the yard to refill. We are transferring it in the yard from a semi to the tender with an auger. Someday we would like to put up a bulk fertilizer plant but this is working good for now.
The light over the door of the truck bay of the shop went out. We got the 620 out of the barn to use to replace it. The old F-10 is good for getting at things that are way up there. I am sure OSHA would have a melt down if they saw this. We just put Ben in the bucket and lift him up to change the bulb. He wore a safety harness of course. We aren't completely crazy. ;D
Done with that project. Time to put the 620 away.
Well that is all for now. Questions and comments welcome.
