STX 550

Yesterday I was on the hunt for an STX 600...no luck since the Louisville series has not yet reached the Iowa venders. Despite that I did pick up a STX 550

The STX 550 is very similar to the STX 500 except for:
1. It uses the 480-535 Legacy tires and rims (ugly then/ugly now)
2. The roof on my STX 500 is a flat red where it is gloss red on the 550 and matches the hood color
3.The rear axle/fuel tank assembly appears to have two add on exhaust fluid fender tanks plus rear facing lights on the fenders. My STX 500 does not have the lights.
4 The back of the 550 driver's seat is painted metallic gray and the 500 is not.



As you may know the recently high horsepower offerings from CIH will offer a Tier 4 Iveco powerplant that will use exhaust fluid(uriah) to control emissions and boost fuel economy. I believe the newly redesigned rear end is set to accomandate the exhaust fluid tank/s.



Carpet performance:
- It really could articulate just a little more for tighter turns
- Unlike the 500, the 550 does not have tire rub in the fenders but that could be attributed to the legacy 535 tires&rims(again ugly)



In summary the STX 550 is a improved version of the 500 but should have been released with 900 tires like the 500. This makes the perfect tractor to place aftermarket tires and rims on. I am quite please with tractor and will post pics with a triplet 900 tire combo.

Tanks on fenders are additional fuel capacity not urea. The cab top was probably a mistake as they should match the hood. Still a nice model but I do agree that the tires are a horrible choice.

Where is the Diesel Exhaust Fluid being stored?

I think the exhaust fluid tank may be under the cab somewhere. I have seen some pics and it looks like where the fill pipe goes to.

I have been searching the net for the past 30 mins. I believe you are correct and is probably located on the left hand side.

The link talks about the system briefly, even though this appears to be a Magnum engine in the examples it should be very similar.

Well I tripled up the 550 tonight but encountered a slight booboo. The OEM front axle was giving me fits, so I let the front end hot soak for a while. I finally pulled it off but while doing so, I smudged the front decal off. DANG IT! Meanwhile here are some snapshots of what it looks like with triplets and my old STX 500 with singles. I may leave it as is or put on some Firestones on it this spring when my bank account recoups from yesterdays toy show visit.

That's really cool and I think ertl should make an edition with weights in the rim of the wheel but I guess they put weights everywhere else lol.

hahahahhahahahah i might have to do that just to see how it looks and mark i will make them and post them i make all my decals for free because i am still learning but if i get bored on the plane ride home i will make them up and have them lunch time on saturday ok

i know a program you can use to make decals, its called gimp, and you take a picture off the intermet (a real picture) and crop it down to what you need, then scale it for the sive you need, then print, very simple to use

actually i put big bad mofo 700 on there they are almost done but if you do that its ok but my only suggestion is not to do that becasuse it will put it all out and it will be missing pixels and stuff but if you do that its ok
