Well I ment to be doin this a little more timely to get you guys caught up on 2010 but at this rate I'll be doin 2011 this way, hope not.
About the first of April we start ai'n heifers, and fixin fence. But about that time the new 60ft no-till drill we traded the 60ft hoe drill for, showed up. So we went about hooking it up to the 535 quad. While it was in the shop we put a new Greenstar system on the tractor.
After we sent the hopefully bread heifers south for the summer it was time to start getting some things ready for the summer. Bout the middle of April we got all the custom silage crew ready.
Loaded and ready to head south the next morning
After that we figured we better get the custom combining crew that we partner with Minkler Farms on ready to go. We pulled the carts in do some major work on. The 2 brents needed all new auger flighting for the 2nd time. When we got them apart we relized that the tubes were just about shot.
So we called the Kinze dealer and went ahead and traded for 2 new 1050 softracs. We went ahead and hauled them home ourselves. I got one home and unloaded it.
Due to a warm spring Johnson Ag got an early start running wheat.
they've also been real busy running dry.
After that we put the planters in the shop and got them ready. We started corn about the 20th. The db90 went on the 435quad, the 16row went on the 7820, and the 6r kinze one the 7430. We have alot of smaller fields that the db90 wont fit in so it gets the big irrigated fields while the smaller 2 handle the rest. About the 1st of may we started in on the beans with the two 42ft drills while the ccs did the cane. Then all the drills and ccs drill started on milo the 15th of may. We ended up having one of the wettest Mays on record so before it was all said and done the whole planting crew got called in to plant milo, and finished about the 10th of June. Then due to some chemical failures, because of all the rain, and some hail, we had to replant about 1000 ac of milo.
Just in time for the fist cuttin of alfalfa the new Deere swather came in. We had actually already started so we just went and picked it up and headed straight to the field.
About the end of May the custom wheat crew headed south. They're going to join up with Minkler Farms down south and hopefully will be back in time for our wheat harvest.
Then we decided, since the boys in the shop had combine fever anyway, we would go ahead and get the farms combine fleet in the shop and go through them.
All of them came through with flying colors. The 9650 is the oldest and will probably go down the road sometime after wheat harvest this year, we just havent found a suitable replacement yet.
Anyway, things keep spinnin round, thanks for droppin in, until next time. Dusty.
