They have been working at spreading the rest of the fertilizer on the wheat. Until they had a bit of a set back with the 1270. Don was down to about 150 acres left to spread when bad luck struck. He was turning around at the end of the field and when he shifted gears there was a bang and the 1270 stopped moving. After some inspection to make sure all the linkages were moving he decided that the transmission had apparently let go.
So he called Mike to come and get him so he could get the 4440 and get back to spreading. He unhooked the spreader and pulled the 1270 out of the way and got back to spreading.
Mike called me and asked if he could borrow the lowboy to haul the 1270 home. I said no prob he would just have to unhook one of the grain trailers off one of the Macks. Here he is getting ready to unhook.
Getting ready to hook up to the lowboy.
He hurried out to the field so he could get there while Don was still there with the 4440, so they could pull the 1270 onto the trailer with it. Pulling it on the trailer.
Loaded up and ready to roll. Don was going to go put on the last 80 acres of fertilizer.
Mike called me and asked if I could help him put the 1270 in their shop. I said no problem I will meet you there.
We put a pipe between the drawbars to push it in the shop.
Now they have another winter project. Tear down the 1270 and see how major of a problem they have on their hands. They will probably finish the 8630 first. It is in getting the inside of the cab redone with new foam and seat, plus retrofitting the a/c to r-134a. It is much cheaper than the old refrigerant.(r-12)
After Mike took the truck back to Minkler Farms he hooked the M up to the auger that they had been using to transfer the fertilizer to take it back. It was a nice day so he decided to drive the M.
They are also starting to get a few calves from the heifers. At least for the most part it has been good weather for calving. That is all for now. Questions and comments welcome.
