Any reason why you run a 4wd on the planter and not a big 2wd? Does that orthman bar take that much power? I guess the wieght on a 4wd is nice considering those planter/ridge tillers weigh as much as they do.

I guess the wieght on a 4wd is nice considering those planter/ridge tillers weigh as much as they do. Them shanks suck alot of power out of a machine. It was a better decision to go with a small 4wd then a bigger FWA moneywise. Plus, it's nice to have the 9330 in tillage and on the cart. We've got a couple quarters that we plant we wish we would've gotten a bigger number because of hills and tight dirt. Trey

Trey i'm going to ask a dumb question why do you no till corn and not dig it up with a field cultivator is it because you lose to much top soil from wind or do you apply liquid fertilizer after the shanks

Trey i'm going to ask a dumb question why do you no till corn and not dig it up with a field cultivator is it because you lose to much top soil from wind or do you apply liquid fertilizer after the shanks Less passes, Less eqqipment=more money saved. With this setup, we're running accross once before planting with the sprayer with pre-plant herbicide and then one pass to plant. Back in the day we had 3 8650's and 2 4650s running constantly planting and tilling. We learned not to work ground to clean over the years, it just causes too big of a mess with topsoil blowing and also make alot of enemies farming that way. Trey
