I bought a pair of container trailers maybe 6-8 months ago with an idea to build a modular tender trailer. I already had all of the parts for it but it was just a matter of building the skids which didn’t take much time at all. This is one of those projects that I think could work well on a real scale but may not be the most practical of necessary let alone being legal to be on the road. Fortunately in 1/64land anything is possible so here goes. I have a total of eight skids available for any configuration you might need. I have two containers for those who need there stuff kept out of the weather. I have three skids that allow a customized chemical setups and one exposed service skid stocked with fuel, whatever fluids you might need, tools, torch and welder. Ill add an air compressor later. I also threw together two dry skids for bulk fertilizer or seed. One is built from a tracked grain cart and the other is a JM gravity wagon outfitted with an auger. There are some serious limitation to some of these skids, ill outline the two main ones that I see. The first is loading it onto the trailer. Originally I had thought a loader would be able to handle them and still might be able to if they are empty. The dry skids and the containers may not work out so well with this method if you have one of the containers setup as a portable shop. So a lift system would be needed where the skid might hang when not in use and then when needed you could back the truck up and set the skid down on the trailer. Similar to what the DOT does with their salt spreading beds when they arent needed. The other limitation is that the dry skids need some kind of power to run the augers. Everything would have to be contained on the skid, hydraulic drives might be a good option. I am sure there are many more limitations to this kind of setup but it was fun to throw together. I hope you enjoy checking it out and maybe it will spark some conversation.
