Well after a wet start to week #2 of seeding last week, we finallly got out last Thursday and managed to get another 1200 acres in before getting rained out again yesterday morning. Looking like we'll be parked for the rest week judging by the forecast. Finished off the lentils and now well into durum. About 450-500 acres remaining which will be mostly durum with probably 100-150 acres of flax thrown in on some light hilly ground. Feeling very fortunate to be at the stage we are when I look around at other areas. I really feel for you guys in eastern SK and into MB with all the flooding and wet issues you guys are facing.
Here's some pics from the last week. Hope you enjoy....
Seeding durum on lentil ground.
I was just admiring the nice straight stripes across the road from what will be one of our Canola fields.
Trucks waiting to fill.
Another one of them early morning wakeups.
The brother-in-law out rolling lentil ground.
Which way to the beach?? lol... Hard to believe that everything that is water was worked and seeded for the past 3-4 years. This is a slough in which we loose roughly 400-450+/- acres in when it's full (which it is this year). My uncle has it running through about 100 acres of his neighboring 1/2 section. It takes up probably 700 acres of land total and it's been said to be over 6ft deep in the middle.
This is working along the north west corner of the farm yard. The big slough comes up just below the barn.
This is a dam that was built is the 30's by my wife's great granfather. It catches the run off and spills over into the slough. The orginal provider of the farms water, there's been 2 big dugouts added ahead of the dam over the years.
Our outfits, rained out
